Este documento es el resultado de un trabajo económico y sectorial que apunta a ampliar el conocimiento sobre la aplicabilidad de las tarifas por congestión en la región, como medida que puede ayudar a gestionar la congestión en las ciudades y a contrarrestar los efectos negativos que afectan el ambiente, la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos y la productividad de las ciudades. El documento revisa las experiencias exitosas de tarificación por congestión y luego calcula el efecto potencial de este esquema de cobro en Bogotá, Ciudad de México y Santiago. Los resultados muestran que la tarificación podría aumentar la velocidad de desplazamiento y reducir el número de viajes en las ciudades estudiadas, aunque el efecto sería menor en las ciudades donde la percepción sobre el transporte público es baja o donde se perciben pocas alternativas de transporte. Asimismo, el potencial de la recaudación generada por el cobro para financiar el transporte público varía según la ciudad y los costos de sus sistemas de transpor
